The pool deck offers a refreshing pool to splash around with the family. When the group gets hungry, the Cabana Bar and restaurant is footsteps away from both the beach and the pool. It offers sandwiches and seafood and is the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat. In the morning, the Inn offers a complimentary grab-n-go breakfast. Another on-site dining option is Austin’s Ocean One restaurant that offers a spectacular view of the ocean, no matter where you sit. This upscale restaurant offers contemporary American cuisine and features seasonal ingredients for lunch and dinner.

The Oceanfront Litchfield Inn is located in Litchfield Beach, which is part of the city of Pawleys Island. 2021 BRH Partner Cup

Four Girls at a Golf Raffle Table

2021 BRH Partner Cup

Golf is known to be a pastime that’s good for relieving stress. And with 90 golf courses, Myrtle Beach offers plenty of opportunities to spend the day playing a relaxing round or two. We love any chance to tee up at any of these spectacular courses, especially when it’s for a good cause.

On March 2nd, 2021, Brittain Resorts and Hotels had the opportunity to do just that as we hosted our charity golf tournament, the BRH Partner Cup. Held at the Pine Lakes Country Club, the event helped raise money for the 10th Anniversary of the David L. Brittain Memorial Scholarship. Pine Lakes Country Club, also known as “The Grandaddy”, is Myrtle Beach’s first golf course and one of the most prestigious courses along the Grand Strand.

Group of Employees at Annual Partner Golf Cup

We started the morning with a Starbucks station at check-in and for lunch, offered a delicious spread provided by Sea Captain’s House. We had DJ Nigel (our resident DJ who entertains at almost all the Brittain Resorts and Hotels oceanfront properties) at the event playing music, keeping the energy up, and creating a fun environment for everyone.

This wasn’t your typical 18-holes of golf. We made sure to add in some friendly competition and mixed it up by featuring the following games throughout:

  • Longest Drive Contest – winner received a private party to “Wine & Dine” up to 8 people at Sea Captain’s House
  • Closest to the Pin Contest – winner received a 1-week stay at North Beach Resort & Villas
  • Rent a Pro – Jarrin Josue from Compass Cove was on site of one of the holes to assist the teams in lowering their scores by hitting the ball for them
  • Guess the Amount of Golf Tees in the Jar – closest guess won a 39-inch smart TV
Group of Girls at Raffle Table

We also raffled off a brand new 2021 golf cart and held a 50/50 raffle which totaled up to around $1,200 for the winner.

The whole golf tournament was a great success, and we would like to personally thank all of our sponsors and partners who helped make the event possible!

Serving Lattes and the Community

“To inspire and nurture the human spirit” is more than just Starbucks’ mission statement, it is the foundation from which the company was built and continues to thrive. Lisa Kyser, who began her journey with Starbucks as a barista embodies that mission. From serving guests a cup of their favorite bodacious brew to serving the community, Lisa has a true servant’s heart. That heart beats with a desire to make a difference, “One person, one cup, one neighborhood at a time.”

In recognition of Lisa’s hard work and dedication to both Starbucks, fellow employees and her customers, Lisa Keyser was recently promoted to Creative Director at the Litchfield Beach & Golf Resort’s Starbucks. Responsible for cultivating a unique environment, Lisa shares with the excitement recognized by her peers, “I analyze different trends by keeping connected on multiple Starbucks social media platforms and then develop interactive ideas for each store. My main goal is to create ways to connect with our customers while also benefiting our community, all while bettering our store, she details.

“Socktober” Donations

Lisa worked her way through the ranks at Starbucks the good ole fashioned way, which includes the hard work one would expect. Additionally, her passion for doing good and making a difference fueled efforts to put her passion to work in the community. In 2019, Keyser and her Starbucks team hit the ground running – literally. They participated in the American Heart Association walk fundraiser, along with the rest of the Brittain company. During Veteran’s Day, offering a free tall drip coffee to their customers who had served – a tradition Lisa says they plan to continue every year. In October, Lisa and her team also organized a drive to collect socks to donate to local schools under the guise of “Socktober”. “I like to incorporate a twist of fun when thinking of ways to give back. It keeps both the customers and my teammates engaged, she explains.”

Up next on Lisa’s mission is to create a way to give back to our troops by way of creating cards for Starbucks customers to fill out while fueling up. After that, she and her team plan to tackle the hunger epidemic through a Backpack Buddies/Help4Kidz charity drive to raise funds and supplies for local school-aged children who lack the proper necessities to thrive in school.

Lisa proudly admits that her charitable nature was instilled in her at a young age. “I grew up watching my parents give back and they still do it to this day.” Now, she hopes that her efforts will spark the same charitable nature in someone else. “There are so many local charities that you can be a part of, my advice is to pick something near to your heart. It doesn’t have to be something big, start small. But the most important thing is to just start!

BRITTAIN RESORTS 2020 RENOVATIONS

Dayton House Renovations

The future’s looking bright for Brittain Resorts as we’ve been busy making tons of exciting updates and renovations to some of our resorts and hotels. We want all of our guests to have the best Myrtle Beach vacation experience, and believe that all starts with our oceanfront accommodations. We’re constantly making improvements each year and are thrilled to let you know we’ve been working on.

BRAND NEW

We’ve made some major renovations to what was previously known as the Long Bay Resort. After brightening up the exterior, pool deck and exterior hallways with fresh coats of coral, gray, and white paint, we’ve completely rebranded the resort. We’re excited to be booking stays for 2020 at the new oceanfront Grande Cayman Resort! Inside the rooms have completely been remodeled. They now have a more modern style, with pops of turquoise and coral. Other fresh touches include a white shiplap accent wall, dark wood laminate flooring, as well as revamped bathrooms with brand new vanity mirrors and tile.

For the company, we have a new centralized laundry facility that’s going to be utilized by our staff. It’s a large warehouse that will fulfill all of our laundry needs and will be used by all of our resorts in Myrtle Beach. This facility makes cleaning easier and more efficient for our dedicated housekeeping staff as they prepare accommodations for upcoming resort stays.

RENOVATIONS

The entire building of the Caribbean Resorts & Villas has been repainted with dark blue and turquoise colors. Not to mention, the Jamaican and Chelsea House units are being completely remodeled with gorgeous modern upgrades and beach decor. It’s neighboring restaurant, Sea Captain’s House, has also been busy freshening up for 2020. Last year they introduced a brand new oceanfront outdoor bar that’s been a hit. This year, they’ve shifted their focus indoors. They’re excited to be adding a new inside bar, as well as a sushi bar. The whole interior will change as they shift to a more open concept flooring plan. The walls received a fresh coat of white paint, and the bathrooms have all been renovated. Plus, get your taste buds ready as some tasty new additions will be making their way on the menu very soon.

Dayton House Resort has a few renovations currently in the works. We’re fixing up the north, middle, and west buildings of the resort. These buildings are being modeled after the suites and south buildings and we’re expecting the project to be completed by summer of 2020. With the completion of this project, all accommodations at Dayton House Resort will be remodeled and upgraded!

COMING SOON

There’s a lot of construction happening around The Breakers Resort. We’ve completely torn down the Pirates Cove and Palmetto buildings to make room for a brand new resort—the oceanfront Marriott Springhill Suites/Courtyard. This tower will have 26 stories and a ton of fantastic amenities. There will be a breakfast dining area, state of the art fitness center, business center, outdoor dining, oceanfront pool, and fire pits. Construction has already started and we’re expecting the building to be completed by spring of 2022.

We’re excited about all these renovations, new additions, and projects under construction. To follow along and check out all the updates, follow us on Facebook and Instagram at @brh_team.

A Rich History Tied To Myrtle Beach & Hospitality

It began more than 100 years ago, in 1905 to be exact, when Steve Chapman, great uncle to Brittain Resorts & Hotels CEO Matthew Brittain, visited Myrtle Beach for a vacation. The son of a country doctor, Chapman returned many times after his first visit, traveling to the South Carolina Lowcountry in a covered wagon, and in 1936 decided to build a guest house on Myrtle Beach’s pristine coast.

During the summers, Brittain’s father, Clay Brittain, Jr., would come to Myrtle Beach from Summerfield, N.C., to help out at the Chesterfield Inn answering phones at the front desk or lifeguarding on the beach. In 1962, Clay Brittain Jr., and his uncle Steve bought the 2nd Avenue Pier, which they later traded for the legendary oceanfront seafood restaurant now known as the Sea Captain’s House.

Despite now being an iconic name related to tourism in Myrtle Beach, the elder Brittain didn’t expect his children to enter into the family business. Instead, he let his sons (David, Matthew and Clay III) and daughter (Mary) choose their own paths. David and Matthew opted to pursue careers in the family business, while Clay III became a renowned area lawyer and Mary moved to Florida. Since David’s passing in 2011, his wife, Ann, has worked closely with Matthew to carry on the Brittain name.

Ann has a lifetime of resort and tourism knowledge. Her family entered hotel management in Myrtle Beach in the 1930s and her brothers still manage the Dayton House on the oceanfront.

SINCE THE EARLY DAYS OF RUNNING THE CHESTERFIELD INN AND SEA CAPTAIN’S HOUSE, MORE ENTITIES HAVE BEEN ADDED TO THE BRITTAIN RESORTS & HOTELS PORTFOLIO, INCLUDING SEVERAL RESORTS AND GOLF COURSES. ADDITIONS OVER THE YEARS HAVE INCLUDED:

• Myrtle Beach National Golf Company • The Breakers Resort • The Caribbean Resort and Villas • Sea Island Resort • Long Bay Resort • Litchfield Beach and Golf Resort • Compass Cove Resort • Ocean Reef Resort • Monterey Bay Suites • Dunes Village Resort • Starbucks partnership • Paradise Resort • Beach Vacations • North Beach Plantation • Ultimate California Pizza & River City Cafe partnership • Mar Vista Grande • The Strand

Through the years, one of the most important constants for Brittain Resorts & Hotels has been the building of partnerships. Instead of taking on all development or all food/beverage aspects, Brittain Resorts & Hotels has chosen to share the responsibilities with partners who can bring the knowledge needed to make projects succeed. As with their humble beginnings, Brittain Resorts & Hotels is still a family business in the sense that they have all worked with the hotels in some aspect. However, the approach of partnering within Myrtle Beach has lead them to the success they are today.

No matter the future, Brittain Resorts & Hotels plans to continue operating with a family business feel while abiding by their three keys to success: keeping customers satisfied and returning to Myrtle Beach, generously taking care of employees, and making investors happy.

From Chai Teas to Director of Training

Follow Brittany Park’s Career with BRH

If you had told Brittany Park in 2012 where she’d be in just six years, she would’ve probably looked at you like you were crazy. You see, in the summer of 2012, Brittany applied at the Starbucks at Breakers Resort to work as a Barista. Now, she juggles much more than coffee orders as the Director of Training for all of Brittain Resorts & Hotels.

Originally from Alexandria, Virginia, this Socastee High School graduate and former Coastal Carolina University student has called the Grand Strand home for more than a decade. Since that initial application for barista, Brittany has made more than eight vertical moves up through the ranks of the Brittain Resorts & Hotel family of properties.

CAREER PATH

Brittany is a living, breathing example of just how much weight Brittain Resorts & Hotels places on promoting from within. From Barista to Assistant Manager of the on-site creamery, and from Guest Service Representative to Evening Manager, and then from Resort Manager to Director of Training (and everything in between), Brittany recognizes the importance of fluidity in a career path. She also has a lot of insight on what it takes to work for this organization.

“I have a unique outlook of what works, what’s redundant, what works for one property that may not work for another,” says Brittany. “I also have a whole new perspective on how to manage people now. If you’d asked me a year ago where I thought I’d be, I would’ve probably said a General Manager of a Brittain Resorts & Hotel property. But this is a newly created position, and I feel like there’s just so much opportunity to grow — there’s a lot of potential in this job.”

TRAINING

“The training for my first job here was a very welcoming experience. I learned all of the recipes, but I also really learned first and foremost how we are expected to treat guests,” says Brittany.

Obviously, the nature of her position now gives her even more of an appreciation for the training here.

“As a whole, we want to give our new associates the resources and information that they need and deserve to succeed. We are, after all, here because of our guests — they are the reason why we come to work each day— so the training here is really emphasizing that high quality of service. And if we aren’t giving our associates the information and training they need to succeed at quality service, how can our guests expect that?”

OFFICIAL BENEFITS

There are many perks to being an associate here, and working in such close proximity to the beach is just one of them!

“We get great associate rates on the [hotel] rooms. That comes especially handy around the winter holidays, because there’s always some family in town and needing a place to stay,” says Brittany.

“Our 401(k) plan is also awesome — the company matches dollar for dollar up to 3% and .50 on the dollar for the following contributions up to 5%. That’s not something you always see in this industry and something I really appreciate as I plan long-term.”

UNOFFICIAL BENEFITS

Beyond the benefits that keep the company competitive as an employer, Brittain Resorts & Hotels stands apart in other ways.

“It feels like a family — when you work here, you are part of the Brittain family. It’s truly a feeling that I’ve never felt working anywhere else. We have team parties, manager outings and other little celebrations — especially after the busy season.”

This industry can get chaotic, and accommodating some guests has its challenges, so being treated well in the day-to-day work is crucial to employee success and happiness. And according to Brittany, that’s also what makes it so fun.

“Every day is different, so it’s an appealing way to look at life. Each day is new.”

TIPS AND TRICKS

To prospective applicants looking to join the Brittain Resorts & Hotel team, Brittany shares a word to the wise: Be yourself.

“The most successful people here are just themselves. Right off the bat, they’re not intimidated by us in the interview. It can be nerve-racking, but if you come in and smoothly handle an interview, we know you can handle any guests’ requests.”

Brittany says that outstanding communication is an absolute must to succeed in this environment, as well. And that includes communicating that you truly want to work for this team.

“If you don’t get the position you’d ideally want, keep reaching out. Just continue to try, and consider starting in another position with the knowledge that you can progress. That’s what has worked for many of us, including myself”

Who knows? You could start as a Barista and wind up as a department director.
Embark on a new opportunity today and kick-start a career that soars! View all available positions with Brittain Resorts & Hotel HERE.
