Scholarship Fund
The David L Brittain Scholarship fund was established in late 2011 to honor the memory of David Brittain. David was a beloved member of the Brittain family, and a leader in the Grand Strand community. Everyone who knew him saw his dedication, not just to his family and his businesses, but to the employees that worked for him and the community that he lived in. It was very important to David to give back, and he showed that to each of us every day.
After David’s sudden passing, the team members of Brittain Resorts & Hotels and The Myrtle Beach National Company wanted to create a scholarship fund that would benefit the employees and their families, as well as students at Coastal Carolina University and Horry Tech that were interested in fields related to hospitality and tourism. The main criteria, more important than any other, was that the recipient had to be involved in some type of community service, understanding that giving back to others is something we should all strive to do.
With the blessings of the Brittain family, the scholarship fund was born. Some of the fundraisers we have had over the past 12 years include:
- Chicken Bog Dinners
- Raffles
- A Golf Tournament
- A Marathon
For employees and their dependents, anyone who applies and is qualified has always been awarded a scholarship. It is our goal to never turn someone down who is qualified.

Who May
Apply
A candidate for this scholarship award must be a team member or dependent of a team member of Brittain Resorts & Hotels and The Myrtle Beach National Company and employed for at least one year.
- Recipient must be enrolled in an accredited community college or university and have a GPA of at least 2.5
- Must be able to provide proof of current enrollment – Copy of transcript
- Community Service – must provide written documentation from a community organization (school, charity, church, etc.) detailing applicant’s community service. If you have any questions, please email [email protected].
- Applications submitted without copy of transcript and community service letter will be rejected.
Deadline
The scholarship application must be submitted to the scholarship committee prior to the Spring & Fall semester each year. The application may be mailed to: The David L. Brittain Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 1948, Myrtle Beach, SC 29578
Announcement and Selection
The scholarship committee will notify chosen applicants.
Who Receives The Scholarship
Funds are payable to the applicants accredited institution on behalf of the applicant. The Financial Aid Office will assure the recipient receives this credit in their proper account for tuition, books, supplies and educational expenses.
